These rugged screen-printed electrodes, fabricated on ceramic substrate, are ideal for performing electrochemical experiments at elevated temperatures or in non-aqueous electrolytes. The working and counter electrodes are available in either platinum or gold. The Au or Pt working electrode is a 2 mm OD circle, and the counter electrode a large surface area "U"-shape. The built-in reference electrode, a small circle next to the working electrode, can be (1) silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) for use in aqueous electrolytes, (2) silver (Ag) pseudo-reference for non-aqueous electrolytes, or (3) the same material as the working electrode which allows users to build their own reference chemistry.
Pine Research offers a
Screen-Printed Electrode Cell Kit for working with these SPEs. Each SPE card can be conveniently plugged into a grip mount without the need for banana plugs or alligator cables. The grip mount is, in turn, fits in a custom cap which threads onto a disposable 20 mL scintillation vial.
The grip mount contains an edge card connector, where each SPE card is plugged into. It is important to keep the electrolyte out of the contact area; otherwise, it could lead to a possible short of the electrode circuit and eventual corrosion of the edge card connector.
